Carl's Ice Cream: A Traditional Frozen Custard Delight in Fredericksburg, VA

Absolutely amazing! We were in town for 5 days and visited twice. The first time I had a vanilla cone which was so good we had to go back. When we went back, we grabbed a quart each of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I was thrilled to learn they offer insulated bags for slightly longer trips because we were staying about 30 minutes away. When we got to our home away from home, the quarts were all still solid. We enjoyed those over the next 2 days...so creamy and delicious! It should be noted they are cash only which I know I've seen in other reviews and questions but that can't be shared enough! I would hate for somebody to get there and not have cash...what a disappointment that would be!

Great ice cream custard style from the original custard machine! Any flavor is good. Don't sleep on the Cherry Slush Float or the Classic Sundae!

Historic place in Fredericksburg, VA. Very simple - shake or sundae. Not 10,000 options. Do one thing, and do it well! These guys do just that. Incredibly good custard with very quick & friendly service. Walk-up only, no dining area. Very cool old school (1950’s 1960’s) vibes. Check it out once and you’ll be back….and don’t forget to read about the history of the place on the side of the building.

Drive from Springfield Va down here to try out some ice cream places and found Carl’s. Very nice mom and pops with the vintage building. Their custard is chef’s kiss. Melts in your mouth like butter.

Needed something sweet while in Fredericksburg and was told their custard was good. It did not disappoint, had a strawberry vanilla sort of swirl. It was very good and it did not melt as fast as other custard I have had. Good waffle cone as well, hit the spot and the service was good.

So this gem has been here a long time! The ice cream is old fashioned and simple. It is also very good! This is a great little after dinner place with a lot of history! If you get the opportunity you should go! And eat it very slow and enjoy the history! This is the last one of these places around! Enjoy!

Coming from the high school sock-hop, me and my gal... well, that's the vibe it will give ya, something out of the 50'. Also, like the 50s, not cards, cash only, tax is already included in the price. We have heard the rave about Carl's, so we wanted to try. The strawberry was amazing, and even the cone was great. Staff was super friendly and dressed in what you would picture a diner employee would look like, little paper hat and all. Great place to grab a cone!

YES!!!!!!! A must. Old fashion feeling. It's been here for many years. When I lived here for 8 years we always took the kids during season. Passing through Virginia I had to stop again. Always happy memories. They close in the winter.
